To get backlinks to your website from another  is the most important element if you want your website to move up the ranks of search engines.

It is important to remember though that not all backlinks are created equal. It should be your focus to get backlinks that can actually make an impact on your rankings long-term.

You can achieve it by the quality of seo backlinks to your site and not the quantity. Quality backlinks mean it is coming from websites that has high Google PageRank (PR).

This are links that are sustainable and won’t penalize your site, and instead build a ton of trust authority to it.

I learned not only from RankXL Niche Site Course but also from other successful websites; like this best way to get backlinks post from Pat Flynn’s Smart Passive Income Blog that the most effective way of getting really powerful links from REAL, RELEVANT websites is through Networking.

No, it’s not joining one of those direct selling company, it basically means doing an Email outreach.

Some of the tips that I see from forums and watching recently a webinar about ranking websites never mention this strategy.

Most of the tips they’re giving are to buy backlinks service packages from Fiverr, which I have tried, and just basing from my experience, it is not an effective strategy.

Those packages creating backlinks for you though some is coming from high PR site, it is way too irrelevant from your websites topic.

There are lots of moving parts to networking and knowing how to do and manage this properly will give you the knowledge and skills to do real SEO to rank your site, offer your services for agencies working with big brand clients or work as a freelancer.

Since this is email outreach then I’m sure you already got the idea that your email address is your primary tool in this link building strategy.

There are 2 steps that you need to do with regards to your Email

1. Create an email account with your first name for your domain that will only be use it for networking (See video below how).

Why separate Email for networking purpose?

You want to do this for better organization, because it’s going to accumulate into a pretty big list of people you’ve reached out to.

Why use your first name? To make it personal and get a higher chance of being open and replied to. Bhuboy@nitrouseo.com is more personal than admin@nitrouseo.com , don’t you think?

2. Connect your domain email account to your regular service(i.e. Gmail)

Why? Because it’s a hassle to have to log into your cpanel everytime to read or send an email

See the video below how to connect a Hostmonster domain email account (it will be somehow similar to other hosting provider) to your Gmail so you can receive through that address will land in your regular inbox, and you’ll also be able to send email through there as well.

It’s important to get this set up and connect the two services. You’ll be sending a lot of emails so this part is essential.

Back linking through networking aka email outreach

What networking means is that you are strategically crafting your emails so that it turns into a link building opportunity.

There are three ways to do this;

1. The first, and easiest method of link building is simple email outreach. It’s also the fastest way of acquiring the link because you’re not offering to do anything for them (i.e. writing a guest post for them).

This is where you praise their post and share your pillar post to them, and later asking if he would share it to his audience

2. Lazy Email outreach is where you just blindly email webmaster and mention your website to them without actually saying it is yours.

3. And the third and which I am going to discuss more deeply because I believe this the most effective way to get websites linking to your website;Broken Link building

Broken Link Building

This is a networking strategy that works SO WELL because you are not just going to be asking for a link you’re going to provide something of value first to the webmaster.

The benefits of broken link building comes in three fold

1. You’re finding broken links (links that don’t work anymore and lead to non-existent pages) and fixing them.

2. You’re essentially making the internet “better” as you build your links.

3. It makes the networking process a LOT more effective because you’re no longer just asking for a link. You’re reaching out to them to help fix their site. And that’s always received with much appreciation.

Let’s start finding those broken links.

First thing to do is finding pages related to our niche, with dead link on them. We can easily find them using Google’s search parameters.

Basically, we will look for “links” or “resources” type pages that list out a bunch of links.

We’re basically looking for “links” or “resources” type pages that list out a bunch of links, this is commonly called resource page link building.

The searches are easy. Go to Google.com, and simply enter in your keyword and type in one of the following right after it.

Keyword+INURL:RESOURCES

Keyword+INURL:LINKS

Keyword+HELPFUL RESOURCES

Keyword+USEFUL LINKS

There are other search parameters you can use, but I just limit it here to four for simplicity sake.

So using my the niche I selected before which I discuss in my keyword research post , stock market investing, it would look something like this.

How to find broken links for the pages you found?

The easiest way to find broken link on a particular page is by using a Chrome extension called “Check My Links”

If you normally use a different browser, then use Chrome just to do this part because this tool is the best and fastest way of scanning a page for broken links.

When you install it, you’ll see this little icon next to your browser’s address bar:

If you visit any of the pages from the search results and click that icon, it will show you all the broken links within seconds.

Green means it’s okay. Red & Black means they’re broken.

If you click that red link, this is what it will show you;

There you go, you have your link prospect, and an opportunity to get a link on that page.

Don’t go yet and contact the webmaster to tell him about the broken link on his page, if you do, then you will be wasting your effort.

You need to create and offer him a replacement for this broken link/s you found.

You can do this by creating a page with a similar content or re-create the dead page into your own site.

How can you re-create a dead page where you can’t see and don’t know what it contains in the first place, you might ask.

You can do this by going to Archive.org and copy/paste the URL of the dead link.

The dates highlighted in blue are clickable, and it will show you what the webpage looked like at that time.

To recreate the page you can just copy and paste the content of the dead link but it is much better to re write it in your words, and put YOU in the element of that page.

Now it’s time to contact the webmaster and get our link.

Here is a sample email template from RankXL Niche Site Course

Subject: found a broken link on (page) 

Body: Hi, I am (your name) and I noticed that you have a broken link to (name of broken website) (URL of broken website) on your page, (name of page where broken link was found) (URL of that page). 

I actually have a perfect replacement for it: (your URL). Yes, I wrote it myself. (Explain why it’s so great. Tell them it’s going to be regularly updated, express your passion to help people in the niche.)
