Investment Scams – 3 Red Flags To Check Before Giving Your Money Away

One Lightning Corporation leader Marcus Jordan de Mesa, who was tag by the SEC as pyramid scammers in 2015. was captured by the NBI in his office in Aero International Corporation.

In 2015, SEC issued a public warning about One Lightning: “One Lightning Corp. has not been issued by this Commission a secondary license to publicly offer or sell securities and to solicit investments from the public,” according to a March 10 advisory on the SEC website.” – Pinoy and Money

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) said yesterday it is on a manhunt for seven officials of One Lightning Corp., a direct selling and investment firm shut down by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for allegedly duping clients of P500 million. – PhilStar

I remember someone invited me to join One lightning a few months back. They trying to entice me by telling me that I don’t have to do anything.

When I give the membership fee, I will get their products and after a few months my investment will come back to me with interest.

Now, I am relieve that I made the right decision of not parting my hard earned money with them.

Another story I read lately is about Jose Cecilio Penaflor, a former Philippine Stock Exchange employee of 10 years, who invited ordinary investors to give their hard-earned money to him so that he could invest the money for them.

His investors are now running after him. Some say he has taken as much as P330 million.

Why are there investment scams?

Because people want it the easy way. As long as people want other people to invest for them, scams are here to stay.

They say to the scammer, “I’ll just give you the money. Ikaw na ang bahala. Just give me my promised returns, okay?”

This is why the TrulyRichClub is so important to me. It teaches me on how to invest on my own.

Stop giving your money to other people to make it grow for you. Do it yourself!

Here are three Red Flags to know it’s a scam…

Red Flag #1: Absurd Promised Returns

According to news reports, a relative of Penaflor invested P120T—and in 15 days—earned P180T.

He also invested P300T—and in 15 days—earned P450T.

Of course, the returns weren’t actually given to him. He was just told, “This is how much you earned. Do you want to invest this?”

It’s the same sad story for every other scam out there, from Emgoldex to Aman Futures to Legacy and One Lightning…

I heard about a company in Batangas that invited people to invest P888, and in four days, they will receive P1300. That company is gone now—and so is a total of P3 billion from ordinary people who trusted them.

Red Flag #2: Returns Are Guaranteed

These scammers will issue Certificates and even post-dated checks (PDCs), to tell you that the returns are guaranteed. These pieces of paper are very attractive to the ordinary investor.

Because it’s something physical in your hand. With lots of nice numbers written on it.

Sadly, those certificates or PDCs will mean nothing one day.

Red Flag #3: The First Investment Grew, But They Invite You to Invest More

When you invest a small amount of money, the guaranteed high returns come true. Or so they claim.

Sometimes, they even show you the check. Sometimes, they actually give you the actual cash.

But then they say, “Do you want to invest more?” Hypnotized by how easy it is to earn, almost everyone says yes.

The only way to fight scams is financial education.

Like TrulyRichCLub and this blog, we need to teach people how to invest on their own and not hand over their money to someone else.

Every time there’s a scam that explodes in the Philippine scene, I always tell myself, “I’m not doing enough.

I should work harder than ever!”

To reach more people, to teach what I am learning from TrulyRichClub.

And I want to invite you to join me, to invest in your financial education change starts one person at a time
